Senior Systems Planning Analyst
Office of the Vice President for Information Technology
University of Arizona
Assignments included management of a computer access, allocation and charging policy; preparation of a strategic plan for University computing and telecommunications; promotion of distributed computing; management of numerous ad hoc projects; and identification of information technology solutions to institutional problems (e.g., document storage/retrieval, library automation).

August 1988 to August 1989
Management Analyst III
Administrative Information Systems
Center for Computing and Information Technology
University of Arizona
Primary responsibility was conducting a feasibility study for an Executive Information System. Other responsibilities included management of office automation projects and microcomputer support.

August 1984 to June 1988
Research Associate
Office of Management Analysis and Research (OMAR)
University of Arizona
Initially, responsible for installation, staff training and development of microcomputer systems in OMAR and associated offices. In later years, responsible for enrolment projections, design and implementation of an academic planning database and various institutional studies.

Prior to 1984 my employment experience consisted principally of independent consulting, junior positions in higher education research and management and part-time graduate student employment.

Undergraduate Teaching Experience
Computing for Business Users (157.101): The required introductory Information Systems course for all Business Studies students (350-600 enrolments). I taught this course six times and was responsible for two major revisions in the course contents, including semesterisation of the course in 1994. In August-December 2003 I taught a similar course (MIS 111: Introduction to Computing) at the University of Arizona, including the development of several new assignments.

Information Systems and Computers (157.102): The required introductory Information Systems course for all Information Science students. I led the introduction of this course at the Albany campus.

Information Management (157.242): The focus of this course is the application of information systems in modern business organisations, including an introduction to electronic commerce. For a few years in the 1990's and again in 2008, I taught a similar course (157.241: Information Systems, Organisations and E-Commerce).

Distributed Systems (157.332): Data communications, distributed and cooperative systems and network design are covered in this course.

Information Systems Management Methods (157.341): An IS management course that addresses strategic, tactical and operational issues in the management of information systems and information technology.

Information Systems Management in Practice (157.342): This course applies the conceptual material learned in 157.341 in a practical context. The principal component is a student project in a local organisation.

E-Business Strategy (157.354): This course is designed as a capstone paper for students who are about to graduate into the e-business marketplace. It helps students see how the electronic technologies they studied in other courses can be applied to achieve organisational goals and objectives. In January-June 2002 I taught a similar course (IS 6641: Electronic Commerce Business Strategies and Management) at the City University of Hong Kong.

Postgraduate Teaching Experience
Management of Information and Communication Systems (143.456): This course covers managerial topics such as project management, competitive advantage, information security and network management. The target audience is fourth-year students in engineering degrees.

Executive Support Systems (157.424): A postgraduate seminar in the use and design of information systems to support executive work.

Information Systems Management (157.700): This course offers comprehensive overview of the application of computing technology within organisations from a managerial perspective. The target audience is the manager who uses information and communication technologies daily, makes decisions about ICT and works with computing professionals, but who is not an ICT manager.

Information Science Research Methods (157.750): A study of information science research, its methods, practices, social context and relationships to other fields of study. Research skills including literature evaluation, data collection, data analysis and publication are practised in this course.

Electronic Commerce Systems (157.754): The aim of this course is to introduce business and IT professionals to the fundamental concepts, technologies, applications and implementation strategies associated with electronic commerce. The course uses an interdisciplinary and managerial approach. In August-December 2001 I taught a similar course (IS491: Electronic Commerce) at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

Organisational Information Systems (157.755): This is an introduction to information resource management and includes topics such as managing information age organisations, electronic commerce, IT management and network security.

Mobile Business (157.777): This course introduces participants to the fundamental concepts, strategies and technologies associated with the implementation of mobile computing so they can play an active role in the development of mobile business opportunities in the organisations in which they work.

Information Systems Research Project (157.799): The principal outcome of this paper is a 30-credit research report on a topic in the student's interest area. I coordinate the paper (e.g., set deadlines and assessment standards, match students to supervisors, facilitate internal moderation) and I also supervise many of the research projects.

MBA Teaching Experience
Business Information Management (115.707): The principal focus of this core MBA course is an examination of information as a business resource. Its aim is to help business professionals understand the key issues associated with the management of information resources in commercial organisations. In 1997-98 I taught a similar course (BUS 506: Management Information Systems) for the University of Otago's MBA programme.

Information Technology and Electronic Commerce (115.743): A study of the nature and role of information and communication technologies in business. The course focuses on a state-of-the-art review of the use of information systems, issues and trends in business-related information technology, and the nature, purpose and evolution of e-business that increasingly shapes business strategy and operations.

Electronic Commerce (115.760): This elective course explores advanced topics in electronic commerce and e-business and includes a group e-commerce project in a small- or medium-sized business. In 2002 this course was replaced by 115.743 (immediately above).

Applied Business Research (115.735): This course serves two distinct needs: (a) to introduce MBA students to the use and conduct of research within modern business organisations and (b) to prepare MBA students for the research project to be conducted at the conclusion of their MBA coursework.

MBA Research Project (115.737): This is the capstone course in Massey University's MBA degree. This 30-credit course allows MBA students to conduct a substantial research project on a topic of personal or professional interest to them. I coordinate 115.737 and I supervise a few of the research projects each year.
