  • Nobel Prize in Medicine awarded to three Humboldtians.
  • The Nobel Prize in Medicine 2011 has been awarded to Bruce Beutler (United States), Jules Hoffmann (Luxembourg), and Ralph Steinman (Canada) for their work on the immune system. All three awardees are Humboldtians. Bruce Beutler and Jules Hoffmann received the Humboldt research prize in 1993 and 1983, respectively. Ralph Steinman was awarded the Max-Planck research prize in 1999.
