DIY Subwoofer and Amplifier

Here's a small writeup, and a few pictures of the subwoofer and amplifier I've built.

The sub is a smallish sealed unit (a 420mm cube) featuring the DPL-12 driver from Adire Audio. The electronics I have built myself, using PCBs from Rod Elliott over at ESP. I can't thank Rod enough for the help he has given me as I have undertaken this fairly ambitious project.

Click the following links for a quick break-down on what the sub consists of (including more pictures :)

The Enclosure

I probably don't have to say anything regarding how good the sub sounds... Suffice to say that it performs superbly. I have yet to add the Linkwitz Transform, and already the extension is incredible. When I first tested it out, using the "Shortcut to Mushrooms" scene in Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, a mirror almost fell off the wall due to the vibrations produced. I was a little worried about the damage I might cause to the room. Note that the driver itself was quite comfortable, it's just everything else in the room wasn't!

I have recorded a small video of the sub in action during the introduction of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon (Speak to Me). This is a great sample track for bass, as it contains fairly high levels of 25Hz content. The movie is 20 seconds long, is in AVI format, and is just under 1MB. Click the frame below to download.
