Double standard (thanks for this, Tony)?
From an article from Australian Associated Press, Brisbane, 5 July:
A desperate mother burgled homes while her toddler daughter waited in the getaway car, a District Court was told here today.
The mother naturally came out with the appropriate formula:
"I did it all solely for my daughter's sake" Dyer told police...
And the judge completed the ritual:
"The separation from your daughter at this stage in her life could have most serious emotional repercussions for that child" he said imposing a ... totally suspended sentence...
If you bother reading such articles this is pretty standard stuff. It was only lent a little piquancy by appearing near an article about a father going to jail for leaving his toddler in the car while he shopped. (The woman robbed a series of homes in January & February when it is stinking hot in Brisbane. Leaving aside the robberies, the woman's daughter would have been in real danger from the heat in the car.)
