"THE OTHER FAMILY VIOLENCE"
This is the violence arising from, or condoned by, the Family Court and the Family Law system.
The concept was introduced at the Forum "Towards a Policy on Men's Health", held in Palmerston North, New Zealand, on 8 May 1996. Here is the material from the forum outlining the other family violence.
Here is some further discussion on the concept by Tom Graves (taken from an email list discussion).
Here is discussion of an example of "third party abuse".
The Community Law Reform Committee of the Australian Capital Territory, Report on Domestic Violence, Chapter 2, placed on the web on 22 Dec. 1995, includes the following statement:
"Research establishes that a common characteristic of those who use domestic violence is that they do not accept responsibility for their actions, and they do not necessarily think they have done anything wrong."
