Van crashes into Johnsonville Pharmacy
March 20, 2019
A mobility van crashed through the front window of Johnsonville Medical Centre pharmacy today.
The Pharmacy owner, Geoff Savell said it appeared the local woman lost control just after 12pm.
“It was mayhem out there for a minute”
“A couple of my staff have gone home because they are quite shocked. They had customers in the shop, which they care deeply for, and just the realisation they could have been so badly hurt was quite hard for them.”
Savell is not sure what will happen next but is hoping to reopen as soon as Friday.
There were no serious injuries, just minor cuts, scratches and shock. “The greatest thing was then to see passers by, other people, just pitching in and helping.
“And the medical centre staff all coming through and making sure that anyone who was hurt or damaged was reviewed and seen.”
Johnsonville Medical Centre business manager Rob Stewart said the medical centre was lucky most of its doctors were coming towards the end of their shifts so were able to respond quickly.
The most serious injury was several fractured ribs suffered by one patient.
“Once we had worked through the initial response there was a large sense of relief, as it was amazing that no one was more seriously injured given the path of the vehicle.
“We have a close relationship with the pharmacy and we were concerned about the impact so we reached out to assist them as well, but they have done a great job and reopened again today.”
Police would not comment and will prepare a press release.
