Opposition against export education levy
University representatives mounted a strong case against the proposed
levy on international student fee income at an Education and Science
Select Committee hearing earlier this month.
PTC mooted for incubator site
Masseys Practical Teaching Complex (PTC) is being touted as
the preferred location for a Palmerston North business incubator,
should it get the go-ahead. However, no decision has yet been made.
Tertiary education strategy released
Although the Governments new quality rather than quantity
approach to tertiary education will be good for New Zealand, exactly
how that phrase is interpreted remains to be seen.
$4.2 million for better services
The University will receive a one-off payment of $4.28 million from
the Tertiary Education Strategy Change Fund as part of the Governments
push towards strategically focused research.
Pygmy sperm whale autopsied
Scarce
food supplies are likely to have caused the death of a pregnant
pygmy sperm whale and her calf, which were autopsied at the University
recently.
Collective Employment Agreement settled
The Massey University Collective Employment Agreement expired on
27 October 2001. A new Collective Agreement has now been negotiated
between the University and representatives of the combined staff
unions and was settled on 9 May 2002.
