Tapa unveiling ceremony held

Tapa unveiling ceremony held

Staff and visitors gathered for a tapa unveiling ceremony in the Library last week. The tapa cloth was gifted to the University by Samoan Education Minister Fiame Naomi. She visited the campus in March, as part of a Samoan delegation studying the Wellington merger.

Undertaking the formal unveiling was Victoria University Samoan Studies programme director Galumalemana Alfred Hunkin (right), pictured here with Wellington Librarian Guy Reynolds. Mr Reynolds says the tapa is a worthy addition to the library’s art collection, which already features several works on M¯aori and Pacific Island themes by a range of artists, some of whom were former lecturers.
