Logging On
- Students: use your student ID number and four digit PIN
- Staff: use your Network Login
- New Zealand School of Music students: your Username is your SM number (SM followed by 6 digits). If you are unsure of your Password please contact the New Zealand School of Music receptionist.
- For more information see the Login Help page
- If you have trouble with logging on please come to the Information Desk for assistance.
Logging Off
It is important you log off after using the computers otherwise other users may access your files and use your budget. Click the “Start” button on the bottom left-hand corner of the screen, then choose the “Log off” option from the menu. If log-off is successful the computer will reboot and bring up the initial login box. This may take a few minutes.
REMEMBER
Any data that is not saved to your H: drive, CD or USB drive will be deleted when you log off.
Printing
Your network account must be in credit in order to print.
Costs:
- Black and white printing: 7 cents (excl. GST) for each side printed.
- Colour printing: 50 cents (excl. GST) per side for A4 and 80 cents (excl. GST) per side for A3.
- Money is deducted from network accounts at the time of printing.
- Note that GST is deducted at the point of adding credit to the network account e.g. a $10 payment will add only $8.89 to your budget.
When you print a document to the black and white printers you will be asked to accept the charges before the document is printed:
If you accept the charges a message will pop up informing you of the printer your document has been sent to:
When you print a document to a colour printer, you will need to log in to the colour printer Release Station (next to the colour printer), highlight the job to print and click ‘Print’. The cost will be shown near the bottom of the screen. Your current budget will be shown at the bottom left of the screen.
If you encounter any printing problems please ask at the Information Desk.
Network Accounts/Budgets
In order to print, your network account balance must be in credit. Some paper coordinators provide students with a computer budget as part of their course.
Money may be added to network accounts at the Library’s Lending Desk (cash or EFTPOS) or using the EFTPOS workstations. Cashiers in the Registry Building / Contact Centres can also add money to network accounts.
Credit cards (Visa or Mastercard) may be used to add money to network accounts online through MyMassey. $5.00 is the minimum amount accepted for budget increases at the Cashiers and online, and refunds are accepted for all amounts over $5.00.
Note that GST is deducted at the time you pay money into your network account.
You can check your account balance through MyMassey (Click on Computer Lab Budget Info).
Saving Work
Files may be saved to your H: drive (which is backed up to a server each night), or to your own portable storage device (CD or USB drive).
All unsaved files will be deleted when you log off from your session (this includes any files saved to the desktop).
If you send your assignment to yourself by email, please make sure it is saved to your H:drive. Click on “Save” rather than “Open” when you are prompted to download the attached file, otherwise you may lose your document.
We recommend that you save work regularly during each session, since at times there may be unexpected network disruption.
Backing Up to CD
All computers in the Information Commons have a CD writer. This means that you can backup your files to a blank CD.
Ask at the Information Desk for assistance with burning CDs.
