Use of Electronic Journal Articles in WebCT Course Material and Printed Study Guides

If you have developed a WebCT course, or intend to develop one, you can insert links so that your students can access journal articles electronically. There is no copyright restriction on posting the URL of an article from any electronic journal listed in the Library Catalogue.

Initial queries (including citations) should be directed to your Liaison Librarian. The Library's Collection Services staff will email the URLs directly to you within 48 hours of receipt of the request. Should you have any problems with the URLs you have been given, please contact the Collection Services staff.

2. Use of Articles from Electronic Journals in Printed Study Guides

If you are planning to include copies of electronic journal articles in your printed Study Guide, you must comply with copyright provisions. Therefore, it is important to observe the following guidelines:

  1. If your article is only available electronically, you may use that article in your study guide with the exception of journals on EBSCOhost. EBSCOhost journals are not licensed to include the use of articles in study guides.
  2. If any of the Massey Libraries holds the journal in print (irrespective of having online access) and your article is included in that print holding, you should take your study guide article from the print version of the journal.
Please note: If the print copy of your journal is held by another Massey campus library, click here to place a request for your article.
  3. If you have any further questions please contact us.

In Print:
  • To identify whether or not the Library holds a journal in print, search for the journal by title in the Library Catalogue. The "Lib has" field indicates the Library's print holdings.
If the holdings are open, we have a current print subscription (e.g. v. 37 (1996)-  means that the Library has a current print subscription from 1996 to the present).

  • If the holdings are closed, we have a print subscription for the years indicated (e.g. v. 27 (1992) - v. 36 (2001) means the Library's print subscription covers the years 1992-2001 only).

  • If the "Call #" field reads Internet and there is no "Lib has" field, we have no print copies of the journal at all.

Journals on EBSCOhost:

To identify journals provided by EBSCOhost, search for the journal by title in the Library Catalogue. The link from the Library Catalogue to the journal will include the text "View articles via EBSCOhost."
