The Biochemical Engineering and Process Biotechnology Research Center focuses on processes for producing biological products including vaccines, antibiotics, biopharmaceuticals, biofuels and biomaterials. The major themes of research at the Center include understanding and enhancement of biocatalysis (enzymes, animal and plant cells, microorganisms); bioremediation of recalcitrant pollutants; biosensors; biomaterials; nanobiotechnology; algal biofuels; bioreactors and photobioreactors; expression and refolding of recombinant proteins; marine biotechnology and bioseparation science. The Center provides research and development services, expert advice and know-how. This multidisciplinary Center is led by Professor Yusuf Chisti and draws on the expertise of other staff.
