Professor Yusuf Chisti leads one of New
Zealand’s most active research programs in biochemical engineering/industrial
biotechnology. Both fundamental and applied research is carried out. The
research program closely integrates molecular, cellular and other biotechnologies
with biochemical engineering, to gain new insights; obtain novel products
and methods for producing them; achieve sustainable production; and provide
solutions to environmental and health problems. Major research areas include:

Recent work has involved partnerships with researchers based in Canada,
Cuba, India, Iran, Malaysia, New Zealand, Romania, Spain, and Thailand.
