Microalgal
Biotechnology and Marine Bioactives
Marine microalgae, cyanobacteria,
sponges and other invertebrates are sources and potential sources of novel
substances including anticancer drugs and other therapeutics. This research
area focuses on bioprospecting for novel compounds from marine sources;
development of technologies for large scale production of microalgae, marine
bacteria and sponges as sources of useful products; methods for recovery
and purification of target products; and assessment of bioactivity of target
compounds.
