If you have an innovative idea, product or service that will take your business to the next level, you may be eligible for a grant through the NZTE Enterprise Development fund.

Up to $20,000 is available on a 50:50 reimbursement basis to co-fund projects that will enhance business capability, profitability and international competitiveness.

Funding can be used to engage external advice or expertise on projects such as:

  • strategic business development
  • feasibility studies
  • product development
  • domestic market development
  • international market development

Grants can also be used to employ a business consultant or undertake advanced management or technology-based training.

1. MASSEY BIOCHEMICAL ENGINEERING.

Substantial grant.

 The Tertiary Education Commission recently awarded Massey University $400,000 contestable funding. This is to provide a pilot educational program aimed at enhancing the science, manufacturing and business skills in small and medium size enterprises in the Biotechnology sector.

Project Manager Dr. Yusuf Chisti, commenting on the grant said “The government is well aware of the international impact of biotechnology and its role in the country’s economic growth.  New Zealand already has a robust emerging biotechnology industry and substantial scientific know-how in modern biotechnology. But this knowledge needs to be effectively translated and made relevant to the commercial sector.  This first-of-its-kind program aims to bring together the target industry and the tertiary education sector as partners in fostering innovation and wealth creation”.

International Organization for Biotechnology and Bioengineering (IOBB) – New Zealand Chapter elects New Zealand Representative.

The International Organization for Biotechnology and Bioengineering (IOBB) recently elected Professor Yusuf Chisti of Massey University as its New Zealand National Representative. IOBB is a nonprofit institution that was founded by prominent academics in 1968 for the advancement of biotechnology and bioengineering. The activities of IOBB span all aspects of biotechnology including social, ethical and educational issues.

2. THE BIO COMMERCE CENTRE.

Appointment of CEO.

Derek Walker Chairman of the Bio Commerce Centre announced in June the appointment of Ralph Schneideman as its first. CEO. In announcing his appointment, Mr. Walker cited Mr. Schneideman`s valuable international experience and his hands-on involvement in commercialising technology products.
