Regional Security Workshop

This free workshop aims to critically examine three key security issues affecting states in the wider Indo-Pacific region – great power relations, maritime security and technological competition. Covid-19 has reemphasized the relevance of geography for New Zealand. Along with Australia, we have been uniquely placed to be able to tightly control our borders, allowing us to live normally. But is life really normal? Have these three security issues changed as a result of Covid-19, or are they present much as they were in pre-Covid times? Are non-traditional types of security more or less important than great power relations? We will explore these questions.

The programme allows for lots of time for questions and discussion. These discussions will inform the book that will come out of this workshop.

Keynote speaker: Prof David Capie

Workshop host: Prof Rouben Azizian, Director, Centre for Defence and Security Studies, Massey University
