Students from Massey University’s halls of residence on the Manawatū campus have collected over 500 food items for a local  charity.

The students brought food items to a mid-winter Christmas dinner at the Student Dining Hall. Accommodation services then donated the items to Just Zilch, a Palmerston North store which provides free food to people in need.

Colombo Hall residential assistant Ben Pigott says the donations were sorely needed. “The students sure helped their cause, but there is always a need for the donation of more food items at places like Just Zilch. It was great to see how giving our halls students were at this event for others in need.”

On top of the community service, the donations also gained the halls points towards winning the inter-hall championship, which is rewarded with the Gumboot Shield Trophy.
