Massey University’s College of Creative Arts in Wellington will host a series of student-led events to celebrate local music for New Zealand Music Month.

The theme of this year’s music month is “Discover Live”, and Wellington audiences can do just that at a series of live concerts organised by student collective Something Something. Music fans can also take part in a New Zealand music quiz and Going Local, a music industry seminar for aspiring musicians.

Something Something will present two concerts and a showcase as part of the Going Local seminar, all featuring Wellington’s best up-and-coming musicians, including Josie Moon and Paige Julia.

Something Something was formed by third-year students from the Bachelor of Commercial Music who are passionate about showcasing the talents of students in the Massey music school and the Wellington music scene.

The collective has participated at music festivals such as Newtown Festival and CubaDupa, gaining real-world experience in music production, event management and performance.

Chairperson Elleana Dumper says the students created the collective as a platform to promote the exciting music scenes across the University and Wellington.

“Something Something provides a student-led window into what is happening in the Wellington scene. People can discover local talent through our events, web page profiles and writing on new music and industry perspectives. At the same time, we’re growing our networks and creating opportunities for ourselves as emerging talents in the music industry,” she says.
