Ako Aotearoa - the National Centre for Tertiary Teaching Excellence has appointed Helen Lomax, Te Aitanga-a-Māhaki, as acting director of the organisation.

Ms Lomax previously held the role of Ako Aotearoa’s deputy director, sector services, since 2015. In this role she has expanded the organisation’s services and helped build the capability of the tertiary education sector to support learner success.

The centre, which champions excellence in learning and teaching, is hosted at Massey University.

Assistant Vice-Chancellor Research, Academic and Enterprise Professor Giselle Byrnes says Ms Lomax’s knowledge of the sector, combined with involvement in strategically shaping the organisation’s future, makes her well placed to drive the organisations’ developments this year.

Ms Lomax's appointment follows the departure of Dr Stanley Frielick. She is expected to be in the role for six months.
