The review commissioned by the Massey University Council into the venue cancellation for Dr Don Brash’s speaking engagement at the Manawatū campus on August 8 has been completed and made public.

It finds the decision to cancel the venue was based on a potential security threat and makes a series of recommendations including that the University adopt a formal policy around evaluating such threats.

Massey University Chancellor Michael Ahie says the review was intended to help the organisation learn whether it could have done things differently and whether there were any gaps in the capability and capacity of the University to make the decision and to manage its consequences.

“The independent review was wide-ranging and has provided us with clear recommendations about how we can better manage risks and communicate. I have confidence in the Vice-Chancellor and her management team’s ability to implement these recommendations.”
