Level of Study
‘Piki Ake Kake Ake’ is a metaphorical term in te reo Māori that means to climb and to ascend. In the context of this scholarship, Piki Ake Kake Ake symbolises the hopes and aspirations of tangata whenua, by assisting four Māori students to excel in the disciplines of communication management, expressive arts, journalism, linguistics, marketing, media studies, and public relations. The School of Communication, Journalism and Marketing and the School of English and Media Studies wish to assist and support Māori students to be successful.
Value and Tenure
The value of the scholarship will be up to a maximum of $1,000
The scholarship is tenable for one year.
Typical Number on Offer
Up to four scholarships will be awarded per year.
•be of Māori descent as recorded on the university enrolment system
•be enrolled either full time or part time, via internal or online mode, for continuing study in the Bachelor of Communication
•have completed at least 120 credits of study towards the Bachelor of Communication.
Selection will be based on academic merit in the Bachelor of Communication to date.
The scholarship is awarded by the University Scholarships Committee on the recommendation of the representatives from the School of Communication, Journalism and Marketing and the School of English and Media Studies.
Conditions of the Scholarship
The scholarship may be held in conjunction with other scholarships, bursaries or awards, so long as these permit co-tenure.
The scholarship will be paid directly into the recipient’s bank account in April.
