Purpose
To support students in their undergraduate study who are experiencing financial difficulty.

Background
The funds for the Bootten Bequest Bursaries were endowed to Massey University from the estate of the late Mrs C Bootten, for the purpose to provide financial assistance to students to enable those students to complete the study for which they are enrolled. Mr and Mrs Bootten farmed for many years in Eltham, Taranaki.

Value and Tenure
The value of each bursary or loan will be up to $5000, and will be paid in one instalment.
At the discretion of the University, the annual interest may be reinvested to maintain the value of the capital fund so the bursary may not be granted each and every year.

Typical Number on Offer
The amount of funds disbursed shall be determined each year from the interest earned on the capital.

Eligibility
Open to students enrolled full-time in a first undergraduate degree at Massey University. Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.

Selection Criteria
Applicants need to demonstrate:
•They are experiencing genuine financial hardship.
•A record of academic success in their studies to date.
•Evidence of good character

Selection Panel
The selection panel consists of the University Scholarships Committee or nominee.

Conditions of Scholarship
In recommending the award of a bursary the Selection Committee will take account of other scholarships and bursaries held by the applicant with a view to achieving a reasonable distribution of monies among qualifying candidates.
The Selection Committee may withdraw or suspend an award at any time.
