Purpose
The Sir John Logan Campbell Agricultural Scholarship encourages first-year students from urban areas such as Auckland to begin a course in agriculture.

Background
Sir John Logan Campbell was a successful Auckland businessman who lived from 1817 to 1912. He made many donations to the people of Auckland, including Cornwall Park. This scholarship has resulted from money gifted in 1925 from his endowment fund to help set up an agricultural teaching course in Palmerston North.

Value and tenure
The value of the scholarship is determined each year from the interest earned on the capital.

The scholarship is offered annually as funds permit and the tenure is for a single academic year.

Typical number on offer
One scholarship is typically offered each year.

Eligibility
Applicants must be first-year Massey University students who are enrolled full time for either the Bachelor of AgriCommerce degree, Bachelor of Agricultural Science degree or the agricultural science major in the Bachelor of Science degree.

Selection criteria
The scholarship is awarded on academic merit, though preference is given to applicants from an urban background who intend to pursue a career within the agricultural sector.

The University Scholarships Committee may take account of other scholarships and bursaries held by the applicants in seeking an equitable distribution of funds.

Selection panel
The scholarship is awarded by the University Scholarships Committee on the recommendation of the Applied Academic Programmes Scholarships Committee.

The University Scholarships Committee has the right to refrain from making an award if there are no suitable applicants and its decision is final.

Conditions of the scholarship
Students who withdraw from their studies during the year in which the scholarship was awarded must repay the money awarded to them.

The scholarship may be held in conjunction with other scholarships, bursaries or awards, so long as those scholarships, bursaries or awards permit co-tenure.

Closing date
The closing date for applications is 3 March. Incomplete or late applications are not accepted.
