After graduating from Massey Agricultural College in 1931, Charles William Robert Smith spent his life farming near Whanganui. His family created this scholarship in his memory.

We're looking for a hard worker who has worked in agriculture.

What you'll be studying

This is an undergraduate scholarship. You will be in your second year of studying towards a degree in agriculture.

Eligibility criteria

You must:

  • be an enrolled Massey University student
  • be studying in a specific subject area
  • be able to demonstrate activity to support this industry as outlined in this award's regulations
  • not be the recipient of any other major scholarships in the same year as this scholarship

Application checklist

Include the following with your application:

  • a CV noting any previous work in the agriculture sector and any community contribution
  • a personal statement. This should demonstrate your work ethic, especially in relation to your studies, as well as your current financial need and how this scholarship would help you
  • at least one reference that mentions your work ethic (from past employers or high school is fine)
  • a copy of your Massey University transcripts/current enrolment. You can download your Study History Report from the Student Portal, under ‘Results and Exams’.

When choosing our recipient, we will consider your academic achievements, work ethic, contribution to the community, financial need and other scholarships or bursaries you hold. We will also consider any work experience you have in agriculture.
