Health Research Council (HRC) Summer Studentships (Ethics)

Ethics summer studentships provide $7500 for students to research and explore ethical issues facing New Zealand by working on a project under the supervision of an experienced researcher or ethicist over 10 weeks during the summer holidays.

HRC is the major government-funded agency responsible for purchasing and coordinating health research and fostering the health research workforce in Aotearoa New Zealand. The HRC mission is to improve human health by promoting and funding health research. HRC purchase a range of health research, including biomedical, clinical, public health, health services, Māori and Pacific research. It also funds a range of health research career development awards.

There are two ethics summer studentship categories to choose from:

  • Ethics Summer Studentship: This studentship focuses on general ethical issues associated with health.
  • Dr Barry Poata Smith Ethics Summer Studentship: This studentship focuses on health and research ethics issues related to Māori, Pacifica or under-represented communities.
