This bursary is from a bequest to Massey University by Ken Powell, who had his own precision equipment business and his wife Elizabeth Powell, who was a registered nurse and midwife. Their bequest was to give "people enthusiastic about technology an extra edge".

Who we're looking for

We're looking for candidates who are currently studying in the areas of design or engineering at an undergraduate level, or in a project related to the advancement of technology within the areas of engineering or design

What you'll be studying

These are undergraduate and postgraduate bursaries.

To apply for an undergraduate bursary, you will be enrolled in one of these qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Engineering with Honours
  • Bachelor of Design with Honours.

To apply for a postgraduate bursary, you will be enrolled in a project related to the advancement of technology

Eligibility criteria

You must:

  • be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
  • be studying in a specific subject area
  • be studying full-time
  • have successfully completed undergraduate study (for a postgraduate bursary)
  • be an enrolled Massey University student

Application checklist

Include the following with your application:

  • your CV
  • a statement outlining your technology project and how it relates to the advancement of technology and evidence of your commitment to advancing the benefits of technology
  • a supporting statement indicating your good citizenship and leadership or community involvement
  • a reference letter from an academic member of staff who can comment on your academic abilities, with particular reference to your technology project
  • a reference letter from a referee who can attest to your leadership /community involvement
  • your academic transcripts for any tertiary study completed outside of Massey University
