Integrated and Adaptive Traffic Signal Control for Diamond Interchange
Read article at Massey Research Online:
The traffic signal control of two closely spaced intersections in a diamond interchange is a complicated problem. Improving the driver experience requires both increasing the diamond interchange capacity and reducing delays at the same time. Mr Pham developed probabilistic fuzzy logic control for diamond interchange (PFLDI) to improve the traffic flow on surface streets and highways. He decided the signal phasing, green time extension and ramp metering in response to real time traffic conditions. His simulation results confirmed that PFLDI surpasses the existing traffic actuated and conventional fuzzy models with lower total travel time and average delay and improvements in average speed.
