Thesis Title

Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in New Zealand and the second highest cause of cancer deaths. Because a high intracolonic drug concentration is required for the treatment of diseases associated within the colon, there has been a considerable amount of research on developing colon targeted oral drug delivery systems. Mr Kavianinia developed novel polysaccharide based tableted carrier systems that protect the drug from the harsh environment of the upper gastrointestinal tract and deliver the drug to the colon. These polysaccharide based carriers show excellent potential as colon specific drug delivery vehicles.
