In the past years, Kenneth has secured competitive external research grants as Principal Investigator, including Building Research Levy (from BRANZ, New Zealand) and General Research Fund (from Research Grants Council of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Hong Kong), as well as some internal research grants. He is also keen to collaborate with other researchers worldwide. For example, he was the co-investigator of a competitive external research grant - National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC Research Grant).
Kenneth also served as the Guest Editor for three special issues in the ASCE Journal of Legal Affairs and Dispute Resolution in Engineering and Construction. Currently, he serves one more special issue in this ASCE journal, and the Editorial Advisory Panel of an International Journal: Management, Procurement and Law. Kenneth has research peer esteem being an assessor for research grant applications as well as being the scientific committee for a number of international conferences. In 2014, he was selected as a short-term visiting fellow (funded) in Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) to visit the Construction Management Research Group in University of Tokyo, Japan.
As of today, 4 PhD students have already completed their studies under Kenneth's main supervision. All of them are currently holding academic positions in Massey University, University of Canterbury, Auckland University of Technology, and Universiti Malaysia Pahang (Malaysia).
Before joining Massey University, Kenneth held academic positions in the City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong (2005 – 2010) and University of Auckland, New Zealand (2010 – 2019). In the University of Auckland, Kenneth has served the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering as Deputy Head of Department (Academic) for two years and took up several service roles such as PG Advisor (Taught), Programme Co-ordinator of MEngSt (Construction Management), Departmental Representative for Misconduct, and Lecturers’ Representative in Senate.
Kenneth is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor. He is an Associate Director of Research at the School of Built Environment. Kenneth is an active researcher in his area that has already produced more than 100 research outputs, including international refereed journal articles, research monograph, book chapters and conference papers. His total number of citations is growing annually with the current H-index of 24 and over 2000 citations (As of June 2020 in Google Scholar). He was the awardee of the ASCE Best Paper Forum or Synopsis Paper Award for the Journal of Legal Affairs and Dispute Resolution in Engineering and Construction.
