Julieanna Preston is a Wellington-based spatial artist, architectural designer and research

academic exploring the limits of material agency via performative, sculptural, temporal and

scholarly works. Often relational and site-specific, her works inquire about the vitality of

materials as sites of political protest and ethical exchange including their proclivity to

engender affective encounters.

  • Newcastle University (UK) awarded me a Visiting Professorship in the School of Architecture Planning and Landscape March-May 2017. This appointment supported engagement with academics, students and postgraduate students and included a public lecture, postgraduate seminars, development of a new postgraduate degree in creative practice, advising on creative practice portfolios for the upcoming RAE, a public performance and participation in a group developing and AHRC grant. - Newcastle University, Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK (2017)
  • Awards: Visiting Professor at Newcastle University UK 2017. This high level university award supported a 6-week visit to Newcastle-Upon-Tyne where I engaged with research across the NU School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape, Culture Lab's Digital Cultures Studio, School of Fine Art, The Great North Museum as well as Northumbria University's School of Art (performance and visual art). During this VP, I developed and produced a performance with 12 collaborators (RO3), delivered 2 keynote lectures and a public lecture (RC2), delivered a postgraduate practice-based seminar (RC1), advised on research funding applications and preparations for REF submissions, mentored academic and PhD students on creative practice research, and prepared and submitted a book chapter and a journal article for review and publication.
