Helene Sterzik - PhD student
Professor Sarah McLaren and Dr Elena Garnevska
The New Zealand Life Cycle Management Centre, Landcare Research and Scion.
This PhD research is focusing on Life Cycle Management (LCM) implementation in the New Zealand primary industry to reinforce the country’s “green and clean” image and increase competitiveness.
One of the main objectives of the PhD is the identification of the challenges faced by primary industry supply chains during LCM uptake. So far, the focus of research on enablers and barriers to uptake of sustainability initiatives has mostly been on individual companies. However, this PhD research examines the sector-based approach as an effective way of driving change amongst primary industry organisations and overcoming the barriers they face during uptake of LCM. The sector-based approach may allow more effective measurement and management of environmental impacts caused by New Zealand supply chains.
