John Bell

John was the Business Development Manager representing Massey University in Hawke’s Bay. Previously John was Director of the MBA programme at the University of Otago and was also a Senior Lecturer in Marketing at Otago. He has over 20 years’ experience consulting to local and national businesses and organisations. His areas of teaching and consulting interest include aviation management, business strategy and planning, brand management, entrepreneurship, market research and professional services marketing. During his time at Otago, John initiated, developed and ran the Master of Entrepreneurship Programme as well as executive education courses and numerous undergraduate and post-graduate courses in business.

In 2008 John moved with his wife and son to Hawke’s Bay, where they have a pip and stone fruit orchard. As well as degrees in Economics, Marketing and Accounting John has a graduate diploma in Marine Science and tertiary qualifications in Horticulture and Apiculture. In addition to lecturing in Strategic Management for the School of Aviation and managing the School’s internship programme, John teaches a Level 3 Certificate in beekeeping and advises businesses and organisations on business strategy and also currently, on commercialising manuka honey opportunities.
