Professionalising the sector – a competency framework for facilitating personal financial management
In the three years since the Fin-Ed Centre’s inception, we have been working with and training personal financial educators across New Zealand. Drawing upon our extensive experience delivering courses to individuals, communities and organisations, the Centre recognised that facilitators of personal financial management needed a competency framework to address their effectiveness. To keep the level of personal financial education both consistent and of a high standard, the Fin-Ed Centre has identified key competencies for both community and professional facilitators of personal financial management.
The Fin-Ed Centre’s competency framework was first unveiled at a national hui of facilitators in July 2015. Feedback from the hui was incorporated into the framework which was then sent out for wider consultation and vetting that further refined it.
Here at the Fin- Ed Centre we understand that the best facilitators are those who are aware of their own capabilities and strengths. Our competency framework is a powerful assessment tool that reflects our commitment to provide an informed and proactive approach to personal financial management education here in New Zealand.
