2017 Sheep Milk NZ Conference: Extraordinary Foods
March 13-14, 2017 (Awapuni Function Centre, 67 Racecourse Rd, Awapuni, Palmerston North)
The 2017 Sheep Milk NZ Conference continues the work of supporting the development of this fledgling industry. Following our two successful previous conferences, the 2017 event will address the industry’s two key challenges: connecting consumers with extraordinary sheep milk foods and increasing per ewe milk production.
In support of this latter objective, the 2017 International Guest Speaker will be Gilles Frégeat (image below). Gilles is General Manager of Upra Lacaune (the French sheep dairy breeding society). He will provide and overview and insights into the structure, character and dynamics of the French Sheep Dairy Industry and in particular discuss that industry's successful genetics and breeding programme.
Draft Programme (as at Feb 27)

In 2017 the Conference will have a particular focus on the value, provenance and variety of foods developed from sheep milk. Included in the presentations will be a kitchen session with the Kingsmeade-sponsored Special Guest Marc Soper. Marc is Executive Chef at Wharekauhau Estate in the Wairarapa and was the winner of the 2016 New Zealand Chef of the Nation competition (run by the NZ Chefs Association). He will be demonstrating and discussing the preparation and presentation of a range of dishes prepared from sheep milk.
