The focus of the Practice Research and Professional Development Hub (PRPDH) is to provide opportunities for staff in the School of Social Work to engage in practice research and to offer professional development programmes for social service and related organisations. A key aim is to bring together research and professional development into one location and work alongside organisations to develop these key facets of practice. This includes supporting organisations to promote strategies for critically reflecting on their practice and develop their frameworks and service delivery approaches so that they can work more effectively with client populations.
Research and evaluation are an integral part of the professional development programmes and research has an educational component as part of the dissemination activities and connections with end users. In summary, the PRPDH is part of a strategy for operationalising the teaching research nexus and confirms that social work and social policy programme's commitment to making a major contribution to practice development nationally and internationally.
Director, Practice Research and Professional Development Hub
The Hub supports researchers to work alongside organisations to develop strategies for researching their practice and to document the interventions that are most effective in working with their client populations. A key focus is on building critically reflective organisations that are able to respond to the diversity of client populations and understand the local contexts of Aotearoa New Zealand and its global relationships.
While many of the research projects are localised and provide focused support to encourage organisations to develop their practice research, the Hub also supports larger-scale projects including a major international project on young people and their pathways to resilience. Associate Professor Jackie Sanders and Professor Robyn Munford are progressing this Pathways to Resilience and Transitions research which is based in the School of Health and Social Services.
