Summer Research Scholarships 2019–2020
School of Natural and Computational Sciences

Summer Research Scholarships are a great way to gain valuable research experience, work with leading researchers at the School of Natural and Computational Sciences at Massey University Auckland, enhance your career opportunities and help you think about pursuing postgraduate study. 

Why do a summer research scholarship?

A Summer Research Scholarship will give you experience conducting research under the guidance and support of a supervisor, and add significant value to your CV. 

Benefits

  • $6,000 tax-free stipend
  • Experience what real research is like, and whether postgraduate study is something for you
  • If you are new to the Massey University Auckland, you can experience studying here and living in Auckland
  • Participation in research will be of advantage in the job market
  • Participate in a research group, and interact with fellow researchers and research team leaders
  • Some summer scholar’s co-author presentations at international conferences and academic journal articles
  • Participate in project meetings
  • Practice data collection, analysis, literature reviews and interviewing techniques and mind mapping
  • Learn to use specialised software, acquire specialist laboratory and/or perfect presentation skills
  • Become familiar with your faculty member who can write credible letters of recommendation for you as you pursue your interests in the future.

Applications for summer 2019-2020 are now ​open.
Closing Date: 23 September 2019.
Applicants advised of outcome: 4 October 2019

Selection criteria

  • Consideration will normally be given to applicants with a good grade average for the last two semesters of the current study.
  • Applicants should also demonstrate that their knowledge and skills align with the requirements of the chosen project.

Eligibility

  • Must be at least in the 2nd year of undergraduate study, but students in 3rd year are preferred.
  • Must meet the English requirement from the School if English is your second language.
  • Currently enrolled postgraduate students are not eligible.
  • Must be available for the entire period of 10 weeks of full – time work.
  • Must be New Zealand citizen or resident, or otherwise have the correct visa to work in New Zealand. If you hold a student visa in New Zealand it must allow you to work full time during summer vacation or scheduled holiday.
