115.725 Leadership and People (15 credit)

This single semester course will study the challenges and tensions in managing and leading people in today’s increasingly competitive, complex and turbulent environment.

It is being offered to MVM students in conjunction with Massey University’s MBA programme and will be taught through the MBA programme.

What will you learn?

On this course you will:

  • Examine how scholars have proposed the challenges of the managerial role and the manager-employee role be understood and grappled with;
  • have opportunities to explore the challenges of leading,  communicating, motivating and managing people.
  • Be encouraged to use your own experiences to examine the utility and limitations of the models and theories being explored.

How the course works

This course is taught by a recognised international expert in the field. Students are expected to:

  • Complete pre-course reading and preparation
  • Attend the compulsory three day face-to-face block course in Christchurch, New Zealand
  • Complete a post-block course assignment

The MBA taught courses are intensely interactive and involve group work, presentations, guest speakers, in-class discussions and debates.

There is a compulsory three day block course in Christchurch, New Zealand held from 8-10 May 2015. This will build on the knowledge you’ve gained from the pre-course reading and preparation.

It is also a great opportunity to meet those you will work with on the course, and experience the beauty of New Zealand
