New Zealand has a diverse range of endemic birds and Wildbase has come across a lot of them. Threatened and endangered birds are flown to us from around the country such as the Kea, Chatham Island Kakariki and Shore Plovers. The common bird species are taken in from the Manawatu region only, working with organisations such as Whanganui Bird Rescue, Pukaha Mt Bruce and members of the public. The more common species include birds such as Kaka, Cuckoo, Bittern, Tui, Kingfisher and Kereru.
Wildbase commonly see window strike, cat attacks, lead toxicity and road traffic accidents affecting these urban species.
This group presents a wide variety of ailments, everything from traumatic injuries to bacterial infections.
