Wildbase workshop with WReNNZ
The Wildlife Rehabilitators Network of NZ (WReNNZ ) held their 2013 conference in October. The theme for this year was decontamination, so the Wildbase Oil Response team were there to give a training session on removing oil from feathers.
Attendees donned protective gear and oiled some seabird feathers with a range of different oils, then cleaned them using Wildbase standard washing protocols. They then graded the feather based on how it looked and how the cleaning product performed.
Feedback was positive: the hands-on practice and experimentation was an enjoyable learning experience and gave them basic skills for use in their own facilities. It also opened discussions around Wildbase upskilling the national WReNNZ community in the near future.
Thanks goes to Craig Shepherd for use of his facilities and to the workshop facilitators Bridey White and Janelle Ward.
