Child Learning Assessment Package (C.L.A.P.)

This package is aimed at children and adolescents experiencing academic difficulties at school. We provide a thorough cognitive, academic and/or psychological assessment to better understand the child’s difficulties, and to identify routes and resources to address their problems.

Assessment process

The assessment usually involves first talking with parents and young people about their difficulties. We usually talk with you together as a family, then with the young person on their own and with the parent(s) on their own. This helps us know what further information we need and who we might need to talk to.

Each test we use is carefully selected and depends on the issues that have been identified.

We often need to gather more information from teachers, resource teachers: learning and behaviour, and other agencies that have been involved. We will obtain your consent first.

At the end of the assessment, there will be a feedback meeting where we talk with the child and parents and, if requested and relevant, the school, about the outcomes of the assessment and our recommendations. It is important to us that you understand what the outcomes mean and what action you can take.

All Intern Psychology and Psychology Trainee students are supervised by a Senior Psychologist.


A standard comprehensive assessment usually involves approximately 5 to 9 hours of contact time:

  • Initial assessment interviews (1 to 2 hours)
  • Testing (3 to 5 hours)
  • Feedback and provision of written report to parents and, if relevant, school (1 to 2 hours)
