Overview of the training

If you’re finding parenting stressful and life too busy, this is the perfect workshop for you. In this six-week course Shirley teaches practical research-based mindful parenting techniques that reduce stress, improve family relationships, provide tools to stay calm in the middle of even the most chaotic days, and create deep, lasting connections between parents and their children.

Course outline

  1. Reducing Stress with Mindfulness
In the first session we look at what Mindfulness is and how Mindfulness practice retrains the brain.
You will learn techniques to quickly move from stressed and overwhelmed to calm and in control. By applying these techniques regularly you will reduce your overall stress levels.
    Skill 1: Quickly reducing Stress
  2. How to keep your Emotions from Hijacking your Brain
Emotions are a normal part of life, but parenting can trigger strong emotions in us that are not always easy to deal with. In this session you will learn how to mindfully process your emotions and prevent yourself from becoming reactive or overwhelmed.
Skill 2: Mindfully processing your own Emotions
  3. What our Children Need to Thrive
Research shows that children thrive in an atmosphere of unconditional love and clear, consistent boundaries. In this session you will learn how to confidently lead the way whilst staying fully connected with your child, so they are able to develop to their fullest potential.
Skill 3: Growing a deep Connection with your child
  4. When the Going gets Tough
Dealing with our children’s emotions and challenging behaviours can be the most difficult part of parenting. In this session you will learn how to get through conflict more quickly and more kindly, by offering empathy for your child’s emotions and firm boundaries for their behaviours.
Skill 4: Mindfully managing your child’s Emotions and Behaviours
  5. Changing Negative Thoughts
Negative thoughts lead to negative emotions and behaviours, and have a significant impact on how much we enjoy our parenting and our children. In this eye-opening session you will learn how to identify your own and begin to change them.
Skill 5: Changing Negative Thought Patterns
  6. Building Mindful Families
Connection is the main ingredient for a Mindful family. In this final session you will learn research-based, fun ways to develop a Mindful family which is not perfect but is truly enjoyable and securely connected.
Skill 6: Creating a Mindful Family
