Registered Nurse Prescribing Practicum

A supervised placement in an approved setting in which assessment, clinical decision-making and prescribing is undertaken in accordance with the Nursing Council of New Zealand competencies for registered nurse prescribing practice.

  • 2 Undertake comprehensive health assessments supported by diagnostic tests and clinical decision-making processes in the planning of interventions to enable the prescribing of medications/appliances within the defined area of practice.
  • 3 Articulate clearly the pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetic and appropriate considerations for the prescribing of medications.
  • 4 Utilise scholarly research to inform nursing practice and decision-making.
  • 5 Demonstrate working collaboratively across settings and within interdisciplinary environments.
  • 6 Demonstrate the Nursing Council competencies for nurse prescribers.
