“The Graduate Diploma in Applied Statistics enhanced my ability to analyse and provide advice more confidently to managers…”
I chose Massey as it offered extramural studies and meant I could fit studies around family and work. As analytics is becoming more and more prevalent in today's big data environment I needed to supplement my maths degree with some training in practical statistics. There was also a great range of papers offered within the diploma.
I learnt more about not only the theory, but applications that improve how I do my work. The project was a highlight - I enjoyed working on the real life analytics under the guidance of a lecturer.
Analytics is playing an increasing part in decision making across many different types of organisations, so I’m sure having statistics study helped me obtain my current job.
In my current role I establish pricing for customers, identify/predict the right product for right person at the right time in the right way. This involves looking at churn, customer life time value, tenure, segmentation, evaluate successfulness of special offers.
The Graduate Diploma in Applied Statistics enhanced my ability to analyse and provide advice more confidently to managers. I know my work is more robust. I know what assumptions to check for and can look beyond the basic. I have a better understanding of the limitations of techniques etc.
