Entry requirements

Admission to the Postgraduate Diploma in Science (Earth Science) requires you to have either:

  • a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Earth Science or Geology as defined for the BSc degree, with a minimum B- average in the majoring 300 level courses; or
  • a Bachelor’s degree followed by a Graduate Diploma endorsed in Earth Science, with a minimum B- average in the 300 level courses; or
  • a Bachelor's degree followed by a Graduate Certificate endorsed in Earth Science comprising at least 45 credits at 300-level from the majoring courses for the intended postgraduate subject, or equivalent, with a minimum grade average of B- in the 300-level courses; or
  • a Postgraduate Certificate comprising 60 credits of Earth Science courses.

Postgraduate Diploma in Science and Technology (Earth Science) structure

You will follow a flexible course of study, which shall consist of courses totalling at least 120 credits of courses at 700-level or above from the Schedule and may include attending field trips, studios, workshops, tutorials, and laboratories as required.

Time limits for completion for eligibility for Distinction or Merit

Your 120 credit postgraduate diploma will carry the award of Distinction, if completed at a superior standard (equivalent to First Class Honours), or Merit (equivalent to Second Class Honours, Division One) if completed within one year of first enrolling in full-time study or within three years of first enrolling in part-time study.

Maximum time to completion

All requirements must be completed within four years of first enrolling in the Postgraduate Diploma in Science.
