Massey’s Postgraduate Diploma in Social Sector Evaluation Research will build your evaluative judgement and skills to further your evaluation career.
Massey’s Postgraduate Diploma in Social Sector Evaluation Research will prepare you for professional evaluation practice in Aotearoa New Zealand. It will increase your knowledge and understanding of evaluation theory, approaches, methodologies, methods and practice issues in the context of professional evaluation.
You’ll strengthen your knowledge and understanding about evaluation in contexts such as social development, employment, health, justice, Māori and Pasifika development, and community development.
You’ll work both online and face-to face in an open, collaborative and discussion-based setting with strong expectations of high-quality work.
Formal qualification in evaluation is in its infancy in New Zealand. On completion of this qualification, you’ll be better positioned to work as an evaluator or commissioner of evaluations in a wide range of government ministries, local government, international agencies or independent research and evaluation contracting agencies.
You may also go on to do a PhD in evaluation. Students report that the programme has “really made them think”, and opened the door to understanding the relevance and potential of evaluation in their work.
The PGDipSSER is the only postgraduate qualification in New Zealand that focuses on theory, methods and practice of evaluation.
You’ll be part of small classes of mostly experienced evaluators who bring a great wealth of knowledge to collaborative study.
All courses examine issues of evaluation in indigenous and cross-cultural contexts.
