Entry requirements

To enrol in an English Language Proficiency short course, you must be at least 17 years old. If you are not a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, you must apply for the appropriate visa.

You will be required to sit an online English language placement test in your home country to determine the appropriate level of class to support your language development.

For general entry requirements see Massey University entry requirements.

Planning your programme

You can join any intake throughout the year. For 2020, the intake dates are:

13 January

24 February

30 March

11 May

15 June

27 July

31 August

12 October

16 November

You can study as many 5 week courses as you need to reach your goal. International research shows it takes approximately 10 weeks of full-time English language tuition to increase half a band in IELTS or equivalent.

The university semester intakes for degrees and other programmes are February, July and November. DEEP is also available in September. We recommend you consider when you want to start your next programme or sit IELTS and work backwards to choose the most suitable date to start an English Language Proficiency short course.

How much will it cost?

We can't tell you the exact cost until you have chosen your courses, as the tuition fees you pay each year vary depending on the courses you choose. There will also be compulsory non-tuition fees you have to pay in addition to your tuition fees. For some courses there may be other charges for things such as study resources, software, trips and contact workshops.

To get an approximate idea of tuition costs for typical study areas, you can use our quick guide to programme fees.
