Thesis Title
Supply Chain Visibility and Its Linkage to Decision-making Improvement: An Exploratory Study in the New Zealand Supply Chain Context.

Research Description
Today’s supply chain managers find it increasingly challenging in making decisions in more complex supply chains that are defined by rapidly changing, continuously expanding and often uncertain business environments (Manuj & Sahin, 2011). Managers endeavour to create greater supply chain visibility, which refers to greater access to high quality information for decision-making support (Goh et al., 2009), to reduce uncertainties, take better and faster actions, thus can lead to improved performance. However, they might face cognitive limitations in processing information to make informed decisions, thus simply sharing and making substantial amount of information available to decision-makers may result in poor performance (Cantor & Macdonald, 2009; Simon et al., 1992). Therefore, it is necessary to understand how supply chain visibility can effectively support supply chain decision-making. Because the extant literature falls short in empirically explaining the relationship between them, the research will investigate what supply chain managers mean by supply chain visibility, how supply chain visibility can effectively support supply chain decision-making for improved performance. To address the research questions, an interpretive exploratory study using abductive reasoning approach (Kovács & Spens, 2005) is conducted. The research data is collected based on in-depth interviews with supply chain managers in New Zealand-based organizations.

Research Importance
The research findings will provide an understanding of supply chain visibility from the decision-making perspective and how supply chain decision-making can benefit from supply chain visibility. Thus, managers can effectively utilize supply chain visibility to improve their decision-making performance.

Personal Description
I am from Vietnam and I started my “PhD journey” at Massey University in 2015. Massey became my ultimate choice because of its international recognition as well as its reputation for experienced staff, excellent service, and friendly environment. When I finish, I plan to continue the academic career.
