Thesis Title
Assessing the impacts of extreme floods on agriculture in Vietnam: Quang Nam case study

Read article at Massey Research Online: MRO icon

Despite advances in technology and the agricultural sector’s vulnerability to weather, this sector depends on natural weather patterns and climate cycles for its productivity. However, the combination of rising sea-level, land degradation, and extreme events, such as storms, heavy rains and flooding, threaten agriculture. Mr. Chau used GIS and CBA to assess the impact of extreme floods on agricultural production as well as evaluated current institutional arrangements for flood management in Vietnam. The identified impacts were substantial and the results offer recommendations to improve flood management strategies.
