Thesis Title
Complexity Measurement for Dealing with Class Imbalance Problems in Classification Modelling

Read article at Massey Research Online: MRO icon

In statistics, data mining, and machine learning, classification modelling seeks rules for allocating individuals to a class, based on their characteristics. This is known to be very difficult when one class is much more prevalent than another. Mr Anwar considered two-class problems for datasets exhibiting this kind of imbalance. He proposed a new measurement of data complexity in order to develop methodologies for improving classifier performance. Applications include fraud/intrusion detection, medical diagnosis/monitoring, bioinformatics, text categorization, insurance claims, and target marketing.
