This project will oversee the movement of Massey's Standard Operating Environment (SOE) for PCs from Windows 7 to Windows 10.
Expected delivery dates to be confirmed.
Windows 10 will come pre-installed on new staff computers.
Staff will be able to self-install Windows 10 on eligible Massey-owned desktops and laptops.
All labs and teaching spaces managed by ITS will be upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10.
The Windows 10 pilot has ended.
Some minor issues (many subtle) have been encountered that each affect only a handful of people, these include: US language settings, scaling, user interface changes, odd Visio shapes and stencil behaviour, odd behaviour with Microsoft Edge and SharePoint, etc.
The major known issues are the lack of drivers for computers that are 12 months old or older. This is prone to making computers unstable or non-functional, particularly when upgrading the computer to Windows 10 (as opposed to a ‘clean’ install). This means that our priority will be to upgrade computers younger than 12 months first.
The University has a huge number of software applications, therefore an extensive programme for testing software compatibility with Windows 10 is essential. This is a major portion of the project’s work. If testing uncovers incompatible software, the software vendor would need to provide a solution. ITS is generally unable to fix software conflicts between Windows 10 and software.
