Teaching and Learning Certificate - currently being redesigned

In the past an internal Teaching and Learning Certificate was available to Massey staff to recognise participation in various professional development activities. The Teaching and Learning Certificate is currently being redesigned in order to provide a clear pathway to the Postgraduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching (PGCertTT) and a new accreditation scheme for tertiary educators currently being developed by Ako Aotearoa at the national level. We intend having our redesigned certificate which leads to the award of a PGCertTT available from the start of 2014. The new structure of the PGCertTT will allow staff to earn credit for specifically tagged professional development modules, workshops and events offered by the Centre for Teaching and Learning.

In the meantime as we work through the CUAP requirements for redesiging this formal qualification, we encourage staff to enrol in 273.784 Learning and Teaching in Tertiary Education as this paper will still be core to the redesigned Certificate. The major advantage of providing a pathway to the PGCertTT is that Massey staff will be able to complete an externally recognisable qualification in the area of tertiary teaching. We expect the newly designed qualification will include transition arrangements for those staff who have already completed some of the requirements of the old Certificate in Teaching and Learning. Our current Certificate in Teaching and Learning for Tutors may well continue but this is subject to the outcome of discussions about the structure of the new PGCertTT. More information will be available over the next few months and please contact your local campus Centre for Teaching and Learning for information on latest developments.
